Pakistani diplomats were targeted in an armed attack on the Pakistani embassy in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul, on Friday.

According to Pakistan Foreign Office, Pakistan’s Chargé d’Affaires for Afghanistan Obaid-ur-Rehman Nizamani was targeted in the attack. Nizamani remained safe in the attack but the guard of the Pakistani Embassy was injured.

The wounded guard has been identified as Sepoy Israr Mohammad who sustained three bullet injuries and was shifted to the hospital.

“The charge d’affaires and other officials are being temporarily called back to Pakistan” confirmed Tahir khan, Islamabad-based journalist.

An official of the Pakistan embassy told AFP that a lone attacker “came behind the cover of houses and started firing”.

“The ambassador and all the other staff are safe, but we are not going outside of the embassy building as a precaution,” he said.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has condemned the murderous attack on the Pakistani head of mission in Kabul and called for an immediate investigation and action against those responsible for the attack.

The foreign ministry of Afghanistan condemned the incident. The spokesperson for the Afghan foreign ministry Abdul Qahar Balkhi issued a statement saying that security institutions would seriously investigate the incident and identity the perpetrators to punish them.

Earlier, the Consulate General of Pakistan in Kandahar had tweeted about the closure of the consulate, which was later deleted. Officials claimed that the consulate’s account was hacked.
