Social workers of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee have volunteered to help out the people who were badly hit by the recent heavy rains in different areas of Balochistan, especially in district Lasbela. The workers have delivered the first tranche of rations to residents of Winder, Lakhra, Liyari and a few other areas where the flash floods had inundated the villages and washed away people’s belongings.

The Karachi chapter of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee, an organization campaigning for social reforms in Balochistan, has spearheaded the volunteer program to aid the people who were worst affected by the heavy rains. Amna Baloch, the organizer of the BYC Karachi, appealed to the general public to fund and participate in the volunteer project. She said that the rains and flashfloods – compounded by the belated and botched government response – have turned life upside down for the people of Balochistan.

In a video posted on social media, Amna Baloch chastised the government for “abandoning” the people stranded in the wake of the heavy rains and floods. She also appealed to the BNP-Mengal chief, Akhtar Mengal, to help the BYC in expanding the volunteer project in other areas of Balochistan.

The Baloch Yakjehti Committee has set up over 20 rescue camps to help the people worst hit by the heavy. These camps are set up in different areas of Karachi where they collect funds, rations, blankets, clothes and eatables. The BYC volunteers then deliver the material to the flood-affected people in district Lasbela.
