Two miners were killed when a coal mine in Thor Ghar (Mountain) area of Harnai overfilled with gas.

The victims are said to be from Pishin area of Balochistan and Afghanistan.

The accident took place due to a gas leak in the coal lease of contractor Abdul Qari, in which Muhammad Tahir son of Dad-ullah resident of Pishin and Azad Khan s/o Zahir Khan, resident of Afghanistan died on the spot.

Local sources in Harnai said that the bodies were rescued from the mine by locals and miners. After which the bodies were moved to Labor Hospital Harnai.

It may be recalled that, several accidents have occurred in coal mines across Balochistan in the past, in which many miners have lost their lives, but on the other hand, the government has not taken any safety measures in coal mines.

According to reports, coal mine workers also suffer from lung, kidney and other diseases.

Coal mines in Balochistan are some of the most dangerous workplaces in the world as frequent accidents kill a large number of workers. Majority of coal mines are directly or indirectly operated by state-owned Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation (PMDC) and Pakistani Petroleum Limited, which have non-existent health and safety policies and measures.

On one hand, workers in the mines of Balochistan are not provided enough facilities and on other hand, they get minimum wages by which they barely can run their houses.
