Two Pakistani military personnel were killed in an explosion in Awaran on Tuesday, local sources said, while military convoys and commercial vehicles were targeted in separate attacks in Surab, Quetta and Turbat.
The personnel were travelling on a motorcycle in Awaran’s Gishkor area when they were targeted in the explosion, sources said. There was no immediate official confirmation of the deaths.
In Surab, armed fighters attacked a Pakistani forces convoy comprising three vehicles near the grid station in Gidar at around 5 p.m. on Tuesday. Initial reports indicated casualties among the personnel, although these could not be immediately confirmed.
A Pakistani military convoy comprising trucks and other vehicles also came under armed attack on Sibi Road in Daghari, around 27 kilometres from Quetta, on Monday, sources said.
Military authorities had yet to comment on the Daghari attack. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has previously claimed attacks on Pakistani forces in the area, but no group had claimed responsibility for this attack at the time of reporting.
In Turbat’s Nasirabad area, armed fighters opened fire on two trailers outside the police station and then set them on fire, local sources said, adding that the fighters also took away a vehicle carrying cement.
Sources said the tyres of two tankers in the same area were also damaged by gunfire.
The latest attacks come amid a sustained rise in security incidents across Balochistan. The Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) recorded 131 attacks in Balochistan in September, accounting for more than half of the 225 attacks documented across Pakistan during the month.
The monitoring group also recorded 35 counterterrorism operations in Balochistan during the same period, reflecting the continued intensity of both armed activity and military operations across the region
