Armed fighters attacked a police station and a Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) station in Balochistan’s Kharan district overnight, setting records and furniture on fire, local sources and a government official said.
The attackers entered Kharan city after midnight on Sunday, set up blockades at several locations and targeted the City Police Station before later attacking the nearby CTD station, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The official said the attackers entered the police station, vandalised the premises and set official records and furniture ablaze. Records and furniture were also damaged at the CTD station, while parts of the building were set on fire, he added.
Local sources said police personnel on duty were taken hostage during the attack and their official weapons were seized.
Eyewitnesses and local sources reported intermittent gunfire and explosions in different parts of the city during the attacks.
A man identified as Mohammad Hassan was reportedly injured in a shooting incident on Old Ghazi Road. Officials did not immediately confirm the incident.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
