A female doctor at Civil Hospital Quetta was seriously injured on Saturday after a hospital employee allegedly threw acid on her, police said.
The victim was identified as Dr Mahnoor Khan Nasar, a resident of Balochistan’s Dukki district.
A senior official at Civil Hospital said Dr Nasar sustained severe burn injuries to her face, chest, legs and other parts of her body.
He added that she was shifted to a private hospital immediately after initial treatment at Civil Hospital, and that arrangements were being made to transfer her to Karachi via air ambulance.
Hospital sources said around 70 per cent of her body was affected in the attack.
Police said the suspect fled the hospital after the attack.
According to police, law enforcement officials later traced the accused while he was attempting to leave Quetta by bus.
DIG Quetta Imran Shaukat said the suspect was asked to surrender but opened fire on police, leading to an exchange of fire in which he was killed.
“The accused was killed in a police encounter while attempting to escape from Quetta by bus,” DIG Shaukat said.
