The Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) on Monday claimed its fighters had seized an SSP office during a coordinated operation in Surab, killed three Pakistani military personnel in an ambush in Kalat and fired rockets at an army camp in Turbat.

In a statement, BLF spokesperson Major Gwahram Baloch also claimed responsibility for killing a man in Kech whom the group accused of working with Pakistani forces.

The BLF said its fighters carried out a “coordinated, organised and multi-phase operation” in the Naghad area of Surab on June 20, taking up positions at several points before blocking the main routes leading into and out of the town.

According to the statement, separate units then advanced towards the Senior Superintendent of Police office and took control of the building, seizing eight official weapons, magazines, bulletproof jackets and other equipment. The group said five official vehicles parked inside the compound, including two bulletproof vehicles, were set on fire and destroyed.

Police personnel present at the office were detained and questioned during the operation, the statement said, adding that they were later released with warnings before the fighters withdrew from the area.

The BLF said the personnel were released “on humanitarian grounds”, maintaining that its armed campaign was directed at the Pakistani military and those it accused of collaborating with it.

In a separate operation on June 19, the group said its fighters ambushed a two-vehicle Pakistani military Bomb Disposal Squad team in the Sangdad area of Kalat, claiming three personnel were killed at the scene and several others wounded.

The same day, BLF fighters fired several rockets at the Pakistani military’s main camp in Apsar, Turbat, the statement said, claiming that the projectiles struck their targets and caused casualties and material losses.

The BLF also claimed responsibility for killing Nazir, son of Ali Muhammad, whom it accused of working with an alleged state-backed armed group in Kech.

According to the statement, Nazir was detained from a shop in the Dan area of Shahrak on June 13 and killed three days later in Gatkaur, Shapuk, after what the group described as an interrogation.

The BLF alleged that Nazir had gathered intelligence and facilitated Pakistani military operations in Kech, Kaisaak, Shahrak, Shapuk, Balgatar and Kolwah under the direction of a local armed-group commander identified as Naseer.

It further accused him of tracking BLF fighters Shoaib alias Wadar and Yahya alias Saki ahead of a Pakistani military operation in Bahtram, Shapuk, on March 2, 2023, in which both men were killed.

Major Gwahram Baloch said the group’s operations would continue until what it described as the “liberation of Balochistan” and the protection of Baloch national identity.

Pakistani authorities have not issued an official response to the BLF’s claims.
