Armed fighters blocked highways at several locations in Balochistan’s Kharan district on Tuesday, destroyed two bridges and attacked Pakistani forces, local sources said, a day after a joint convoy carrying a Frontier Corps commandant and the Barkhan deputy commissioner was ambushed.
A large number of fighters established blockades at Nauroz Kalat, Zarozai and Sarawan and took control of sections of the highways, the sources said.
Pakistani forces came under fire after attempting to advance towards Nauroz Kalat, with local sources reporting that two personnel were killed. Officials have not confirmed the casualties.
Two bridges on the Kharan-Karachi highway in Sarawan were also destroyed with explosives, while Pakistani forces later fired mortar shells towards populated areas in Nauroz Kalat, local sources said. There were no immediate reports of civilian casualties or damage.
Meanwhile, in Barkhan on Monday, fighters reportedly targeted a joint convoy carrying an FC commandant and the district’s deputy commissioner with an explosive device and later opened fire, as several powerful explosions were heard in quick succession.
The convoy included several Pakistani forces vehicles and motorcycles. Initial reports indicated that Pakistani personnel suffered casualties, but officials had not released details at the time of publication.
No group has claimed responsibility for either incident.
