A passenger coach overturned on the Makran Coastal Highway near Ormara in Balochistan on Saturday, killing nine people and injuring 36 others, police said.

Police said the Karachi-bound coach, operated by private company Al Usman, lost control near the Hudd Goth area and overturned. Preliminary findings suggested overspeeding caused the crash, said SP Aslam Bangulzai.

Rescue teams moved the dead and injured to Ormara Tehsil Hospital, where officials said several passengers were in critical condition.

Police said an investigation was under way and details about the driver and the company were being collected.

The Makran Coastal Highway has seen multiple serious accidents in recent years, with experts often citing overspeeding, poor road conditions, weak enforcement and administrative neglect as contributing factors.
