Renowned Baloch folk singer Wahab Bugti has alleged that he was subjected to physical assault by Bilal Umrani, the son of Pakistan Peoples Party local leader and former Balochistan minister Mir Sadiq Umrani, in an incident that reportedly took place in Nasirabad.
The allegation came to light after Wahab Bugti shared images and a video message on social media, displaying what he said were marks of torture on his body and demanding justice. In his statement, Bugti claimed that Bilal Umrani had invited him to his residence in Naseerabad, where he was allegedly mistreated and assaulted without any clear provocation.
Following the circulation of the images and videos online, police officials said the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) had taken notice of the matter and ordered an immediate inquiry into the incident. However, authorities have not yet released further details regarding the findings of the inquiry or any formal legal action.
Wahab Bugti belongs to Naseerabad district in Balochistan and has been associated with Balochi folk music for several years. He gained international recognition in 2022 after performing the song Kana Yaari in Coke Studio Season 14 alongside fellow Baloch artists Kaifi Khalil and Eva B.
Bugti stated that the accused is an influential figure and the son of a former Balochistan minister, but stressed that influence should not place anyone above the law. He called for prompt and impartial action against those responsible for the alleged assault.
Subsequently, it emerged that a reconciliation had taken place between Wahab Bugti and Bilal Umrani. Police officials, however, have yet to clarify the circumstances of the settlement or whether the inquiry will proceed independently of the reported compromise.
