Two prominent Supreme Court judges, Mohammad Muqaisi and Ali Razini, were killed, and a third judge, identified as Marri, was injured in a shooting outside the Palace of Justice in Tehran on Saturday morning, according to Iranian media reports.
The assailant, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, reportedly opened fire on the judges before taking his own life. The incident has sent shockwaves through Iran’s judiciary and public, given the high-profile nature of the victims.
Both Muqaisi and Razini were influential judicial figures, known for their controversial rulings, including death sentences against political dissidents and human rights activists. Their decisions often drew sharp criticism from international human rights organizations, which accused them of suppressing opposition voices under the pretext of law enforcement.
The motive for the attack remains unclear, and authorities have launched an investigation. Judge Marri, who was injured in the incident, is reported to be in critical condition and is receiving treatment at a local hospital.
