A seminar focusing on universal salt iodization and its health benefits was held at the DHDC Hall in Khuzdar. The event was overseen by District Supervisor Nida Rais and attended by DHO Khuzdar Rafiq Sasoli, Logistic Officer Karim Zehri, and ADC Rashida Zehri.
The seminar aimed to educate participants about the importance of iodine intake and its role in preventing diseases caused by iodine deficiency. Attendees, including Lady Health Supervisors (LHS) and Lady Health Workers (LHWs), were briefed on the health issues associated with iodine deficiency. These included goiter, hypothyroidism, cretinism, mental disabilities, developmental delays, and pregnancy complications.
Experts highlighted the severe consequences of iodine deficiency on individual health and its broader impact on society. The discussions emphasized the necessity of using iodized salt to prevent these diseases and improve public health.
Participants were instructed to assess iodine levels in every household within their communities and ensure adequate iodine intake for all. DHO Rafiq Sasoli urged attendees to intensify their efforts and expand the program across the district to raise widespread awareness and mitigate the negative health effects of iodine deficiency.
“This program is not only critical for health improvement but also represents a significant step toward enhancing the quality of life in our communities,” said Sasoli.
The seminar concluded with a commitment from participants to spread awareness about the importance of iodized salt and its health benefits within their communities. Attendees praised the initiative as a vital step toward preventing iodine deficiency-related diseases and pledged to contribute actively to its success.
