Seventy-four people were injured in 33 traffic accidents across various areas of Balochistan only in 24 hours.

According to the MERC report, these 33 accidents occurred on different highways across Balochistan, resulting in injuries for 74 individuals. Approximately 16 of these incidents took place on the N50 Quetta-Zhob-DI Khan highway, while 12 occurred on the N25 Quetta-Karachi highway.

The roads in Balochistan, especially major routes like the Quetta-Karachi highway, have long been a concern for locals due to poor infrastructure and lack of government attention. Known locally as the “killer highway,” the Quetta-Karachi route sees a high rate of traffic accidents and fatalities each year, largely due to narrow, poorly maintained roads that struggle to handle the volume of vehicles, particularly heavy trucks. Despite the urgency, improvements have been limited, and the region’s highways continue to suffer from inadequate safety measures, making travel risky for residents.

The lack of road maintenance and expansion, combined with Balochistan’s challenging terrain, contributes to an alarmingly high accident rate, with hundreds losing their lives annually.
