According to a report by the Department of Education, an additional 542 schools have been closed during the current government’s tenure in Balochistan, and the closure process continues.

The Department of Education Balochistan has released a report concerning the closure of schools in the province. According to the report, 16,000 teachers are needed to reactivate the closed schools.

The Department of Education’s report states that by May of this year, the number of closed schools had reached 3,152. By September 2nd, the number of inactive schools in 35 districts had risen to 3,694.

The highest number of closed schools is in Pishin, with 254 schools shut down, while Dera Bugti has the fewest, with 13 schools inactive.

It is worth noting that Balochistan is considered quite underdeveloped in terms of education, with the absence of government schools, lack of teachers, and basic facilities being significant reasons. As a result, students and political organizations in Balochistan frequently stage protests.

According to the Department of Education, by 2021, 1.2 million children in Balochistan were out of school, representing over 70% of school-aged children in the province, and there were 7,000 vacant teaching positions. This number has since increased, and the continued closure of schools and shortage of teachers has further added to the number of children not attending school.
