Another tragic case of suicide has emerged in Balochistan’s Kech district, where a young man ended his own life.
According to reports, Ishaq s/o Rehmat, committed suicide in the Gelli area of Kech’s Buleda tehsil on Monday. The motive behind the suicide is yet to be ascertained.
Balochistan has witnessed a surge in suicide cases, which continue to rise daily. Several of these cases involve young people and women who have reportedly taken their own lives due to pressure, harassment, and blackmail by Pakistan forces.
In a similar incident last June, an orphaned youth who had allegedly been forcibly disappeared twice by Pakistani intelligence agencies committed suicide in Turbat city of Balochistan.
PAANK, the human rights department of the Baloch National Movement (BNM), confirmed that 56 suicide cases, most of them involving women, were reported in the first three months of 2023 in Balochistan. However, the actual number of cases is likely higher, as many incidents in rural Balochistan go unreported due to social and tribal taboos.
