The Balochi Academy has called on the Balochistan government to develop a curriculum for teaching the Balochi language from primary school to matriculation. This demand was made during a workshop at the Balochi Academy Complex in Quetta.
The workshop was attended by several institutions dedicated to promoting the Balochi language and literature, including the Balochi Academy, Balochistan Academy Turbat, Syed Hashmi Reference Library Malir, Izzat Academy Panjgur, Naseer Kubadani Labzanki Diwan Kharan, and Raaskoh Literary Diwan Noshki.
Participants discussed challenges and proposed solutions for promoting the Balochi language and literature. In a joint declaration, they urged the government to take serious steps to preserve the language, history, culture, and traditions of the Baloch people.
The participants criticized the allocation of funds to numerous dummy and unknown organizations under the guise of literary promotion, while established institutions receive no financial support.
“It is tragic that this year the Balochistan government has cut financial grants to institutions like the Balochi Academy, Balochistan Academy Turbat, and Izzat Academy,” the declaration said. They called for a review of financial grants to ensure that funds are allocated based on performance and not to non-existent or personal business entities.
The workshop emphasized the need for unity among literary institutions and the use of modern scientific methods to promote the Balochi language. Participants suggested creating a unified Balochi script, developing dictionaries and thesauruses, preserving ancient poetry and folklore, and aligning the language with modern digital demands.
