At least 23 people have died and 1,247 have been injured in road accidents across Balochistan over the past week, according to a report by the Medical Emergency Response Center (MERC) 1122.
The report detailed that a total of 868 road accidents were recorded on Balochistan’s highways during this period. One of the most affected areas was the N-25 Windar-Lasbela highway, where 40 separate accidents resulted in 56 injuries and six deaths.
In addition to Windar-Lasbela, several other stretches of the N-25 saw significant accidents, including Lakpass-Mastung, Kalat, Baghbana-Khuzdar, Darkala-Khuzdar, Kararo-Khuzdar, and Tiaro-Lasbela.
The N-50 highway saw numerous accidents at Ziarat Cross-Pishin, Nasai-Qila Saifullah, Shanki-Qila Saifullah, and Badin Zai-Zhob.
Additionally, accidents were reported on the N-85 in Gidar-Surab and the N-65 in Gokurt-Kachhi, Bakhtiarabad-Sibbi, and Cattle Farm-Jaffarabad. The N-70 highway saw incidents at Mukhtar-Loralai, while N-25 Khuzdar and the N-50 Trauma Center in Zhob also recorded a significant number of traffic accidents.
These alarming statistics highlight the urgent need for improved road safety measures and emergency response services in Balochistan. The high frequency of accidents underscores a critical issue for the authorities and calls for immediate action to mitigate the toll of road traffic incidents.
