Two men from Balochistan’s Awaran district have reportedly been subjected to enforced disappearances. The Pakistani army is accused of detaining Muslim Rasheed and Shahnawaz, both hailing from Sandum Gishkur, and relocating them to an unknown location.
The Human Rights Department of the Baloch National Movement (BNM), PAANK, has highlighted this incident as part of a distressing pattern of human rights violations in the region. PAANK has condemned the practice as inhumane and is calling for the immediate and safe release of the individuals.
Enforced disappearances are alarmingly routine in Balochistan, with estimates suggesting over 50,000 cases. Activists and civilians, particularly those vocal about Baloch rights, are said to be targeted by what families of the disappeared and human rights organizations describe as ‘death squads’, allegedly operated by Pakistani forces and intelligence agencies.
