A youth allegedly forcibly disappeared by CTD and secretive agencies’ personnel from the Jaffarabad district of Balochistan, while another previously forcibly disappeared youth from Mastung district returned to his home.

According to reports, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) along with personnel of secretive agencies allegedly forcibly detained a youth and subsequently moved him to an undisclosed location.

The missing youth has been identified as Sala, son of Wadera Gago Bugti. Local sources alleged that the Pakistani intelligence agencies personnel detained the aforementioned youth on January 19 from Dera Allah Yar city of Jafarabad district.

On the other hand, a previously missing youth has been released after 17 months of “illegal” detention and returned to his family members on Saturday. As per reports, Shahid Hussain, who was forcibly disappeared from Mustang on August 10, 2022, has been released and reached his home.

It’s pertinent to mention that enforced disappearances are not uncommon in Balochistan, almost every day people go missing from different parts of the region. Since the beginning of this year, four cases have been reported from Quetta, six from Kech district, two from Awaran, and one from Jaffarabad while three missing persons were released.

The Baloch Yekjetti Committee (BYC) and other Baloch organizations accuse Pakistani state institutions of being involved in these enforced disappearances and “fake encounters”. These organizations allege that the state institutions involved in enforced disappearances are being supported by the mainstream parties of Pakistan, the government, and the judiciary, which is a serious violation of civil rights.

A mass movement against enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings led by the Baloch Yekjetti Committee is underway and numerous protests are being carried out in this regard in Balochistan and abroad. Human rights organizations and foreign countries have condemned the Pakistani government for being involved in these serious crimes and have called for an end to enforced disappearances.
