The Sibi district in Balochistan is currently grappling with a severe gastroenteritis outbreak, which has resulted in four deaths. Dr. Babar Shahid, the Medical Superintendent of DHQ Hospital, confirmed the fatalities and highlighted an alarming increase in cases since the start of November.
In response, the district headquarters hospital in Sibi has declared an emergency to effectively address the growing number of patients. Residents have been advised to boil water as a precautionary measure and seek immediate medical care if symptoms of gastroenteritis, such as severe diarrhea or vomiting, occur.
The Health Secretary of Balochistan, Abdullah Khan, confirmed that following instructions from the Chief Minister and Health Minister, a concerted effort is underway to mitigate the outbreak. These measures include mobilizing specialist doctors and enhancing the medical infrastructure to combat the outbreak.
Additional healthcare staff and medical supplies have been dispatched to manage and curb the spread of the illness, with a focus on improving water quality—a key factor in the outbreak. Pediatric specialists, along with other medical experts, have been actively engaged in treating those affected.
