Tents donated for Balochistan’s flood affectees by United Nations Higher Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) were used during a public gathering of Jamiat ul Ulema e Islam (F) during a public meeting on Thursday in Quetta.
According to reports, the video of the relief tents and blankets being used at the JUI’s gathering went viral on social media — attracting a massive wave of criticism to the religious party and the government. However, the JUI (F) has not officially responded to the matter. While on the other hand, the party leaders and workers on the ground continued to blame each other on social media for the use of these tents.
JUI-F is the second-largest parliamentary party and largest opposition party with 11 lawmakers in the house of 65. The religious party had recently joined the coalition government as well.
It can be seen in the viral video that the UNHCR tents and blankets sent for the flood victims were used as carpets at the workers’ convention gathering of JUI at Ayub Stadium in Balochistan’s capital, Quetta.
Sources said that these tents given to the flood victims were provided by the Provincial Disaster Management Association to the religious party instead of the victims. On the other hand, thousands of flood victims suffering under the open sky in the freezing cold areas of Balochistan and are waiting for government assistance.
