Provincial Minister Sarfaraz Bugti was targeted in an IED explosion by unknown assailants in his hometown of Dera Bugti. Bugti was safe in the blast and there are no reports of any casualties.
According to Deputy Commissioner Dera Bugti, Mumtaz Khetran, the convoy of Sarfraz Bugti was targeted in the area of Rojhan. He confirmed that Bugti was safe in the explosion but a few of his guards were wounded.
The deputy commissioner said that Senator Sarfraz Bugti was coming home to celebrate Eid when his convoy was targeted.
Baloch nationalists and “pro-independence” groups have accused Sarfaraz Bugti of running a death squad, a group of local militia that are involved in crimes such as enforced disappearances and kill and dumps. Bugti’s relatives and close associates have been targeted in various attacks in the past. In January this year, his cousin was among the four who were killed in a deadly explosion in January this year.
No group has claimed responsibility for Saturday’s attack.
