A program will be held in Karachi’s Lyari area to pay homage to eminent Baloch poetess and trailblazer Banal Dashtiyari and her services in the advancement of Balochi literature.

Dashtyari holds a distinction among Balochi writers for the versatility of her writing; she not only made a name for herself in poetry but also dabbled in humour writing. Dashtyari, who had the birthname Syeda Naz Bibi, was born in Lyari in 1925. Her father Syed Malang Shah Hashmi was a renowned Sufi poet of his time, and her early exposure to this poetic environment translated into a flair for this art.

She acquired her religious education from her mother, who was also a prominent teacher in her locality. Dashtyari died in Karachi in November 1992
