In the southwestern district of Nimruz in Afghanistan, Baloch tribal leaders have taken up arms against the advancing Taliban troops who now control a large swathe of Afghanistan. The Taliban have been emboldened by the United States’ plans for complete military withdrawal by August 31. They have overrun many key districts in the country and even claim to control 85% of Afghanistan. Afghan civilians are not content with the developments in their country and many have prepared themselves for an armed battle with the Taliban.

The Baloch tribal leaders in Nimruz are among these people. Haji Abdul Karim Brahui and Sardar Abdul Razak Gorgaij, two prominent Baloch tribal leaders based in Nirmuz, have formed an armed militia to repel the advancing Taliban troops. The tribal leaders vowed to protect their fellow citizens in Nimruz from the Taliban forces.

The leaders assured the people of Nirmuz that they won’t be left to the mercy of the Taliban at this critical juncture. They vowed that we will fight them with fortitude and Islamic and Baloch conduct.
