At least nine people were killed and 46 others got injured after a driver rammed his car into a crowd in China.
“There was a vicious incident that a person deliberately drove into crowds at Lijiang Square of Hengdong County,” CNN quoted a release by the local Government.
While the motive of the crash, which reportedly occurred at 7:35 pm local time is yet to be determined, the driver identified by his surname, Yang, has been taken into custody, according to CNN.
The city of Hengyang is about 330 miles north of Guangzhou.
Similar acts have violence have been reported from China in past too. Chinese government has long worried about the potential for extremists or separatist groups to carry out such attacks.
China is also accused by international community to run ‘internment camps’ where Muslim minorities are forcibly held.
