A fresh case of polio has surfaced from Dukki district of Balochistan.
This is the third polio case reported from Balochistan this year, and all three cases have been from Dukki district.
According to details received by The Balochistan Post, an 18-month-old boy Muhammad Usman from Killi Babran of Dukki fell victim to the virus that was diagnosed in him on Friday.
It is yet to be ascertained if the child was ever administered polio drops.
During 2017, three polio cases were reported in Balochistan. The cases were from Quetta and Killa Abdullah districts.
The Balochistan government claims that it has imposed an emergency with the objective of wiping out the crippling virus. However, polio cases continue to be reported every year negating claims of the government.
Administration of polio drops has also faced disturbance due to continuous attacks on polio workers.
Polio workers have come under attack on several occasions since it was revealed that the CIA used a polio vaccination campaign as a ruse to get information on al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden, who was killed by US commandos in Pakistan in 2011.
Baloch political organisations allege Pakistani secret agencies of backing the religious extremists behind such attacks.
Pakistan is one of the only countries in the world where polio is still endemic, along with Afghanistan and Nigeria.
