At least seven people have been ‘abducted’ by Pakistani security forces in different raids during Muslim religious festival of Eid from the same town in Balochistan.
The arrests, which campaign groups and local activists term ‘abductions’ due to absence of any legal warrant, were made in Dasht, Kech.
According to details The Balochistan Post received, The first person arrested by Pakistani security forces was identified as Imam Baksh s/o Dost Mohammad. He was arrested during a raid at his house in Jan Mahmad Bazar, Dasht on 15th June, the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr. He was taken to an undisclosed location.
The remaining six people were arrested this morning, the 3rd day of the Eid, from the same town called Sholeeg in Dasht, Kech.
According to reports, personnel of Pakistani armed forces and secret services cordoned off Sholeeg Jammani Bazar and arrested at least seven persons, who were then taken to undisclosed locations.
The arrests were made during house to house searches. A arrested also include a son and his two sons.
The abducted have been identified as:
- Dad Muhammad s/o Hussain
- Arif s/o Dad Muhammad
- Yaseen s/o Dad Muhammad
- Abdullah s/o Deen Muhammad
- Javed s/o Mulla Atta Muhammad
- Muslim s/o Muhammad Raheem
Locals also alleged that women and children were beaten and abused during the raids.
Enforced disappearances that started in early 2000s have never slowed down in Balochistan, in fact dramatic surge has been observed in number of people going missing with each coming year.
According to Baloch National Movement (BNM), just in last three months 293 people have gone missing after being arrested by security forces. This includes 107 persons in March, 115 in April and 71 in May.
