The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for the assassination of Mir Zaib Qambrani, an alleged operative of Pakistan’s Military Intelligence (MI), in Quetta. In a statement released to the media, BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch stated that their fighters executed Qambrani on Friday night.
According to the spokesperson, Zaib Qambrani had been working for the ‘occupying’ Pakistani forces as an informant and collaborator for a long time. He was also linked with Siraj Raisani, the slain leader of a state-sponsored ‘death squad’, and was involved in recruiting individuals for the Pakistani military in Quetta and Mastung.
Jeeyand Baloch further claimed that Qambrani was directly involved in aiding the Pakistani military in its raids, violating the sanctity of Baloch homes, and facilitating the ‘enforced disappearances’ of Baloch youth. He was also allegedly extorting locals under the protection of the ‘occupying’ forces.
The spokesperson added that earlier this month, on October 10, BLA fighters captured another informant, Mujeeb-ur-Rehman, disguised as a malang (dervish) in Mastung’s Spilinji Maro area. During interrogation, Mujeeb revealed that Pakistani intelligence officers had introduced him to Zaib Qambrani, under whose guidance he had been working as an informant. Mujeeb also admitted to informing on Salman Qambrani and Gazzain Qambrani, who were subsequently forcibly disappeared by the Pakistani security forces and killed in staged encounters.
Jeeyand Baloch stated that Zaib Qambrani was sentenced to death by the Baloch National Court on charges of treason, and the BLA carried out the execution on Friday night.
