The Deputy Commissioner of Gwadar has confirmed that the individual who attempted to attack Dr. Mahrang Baloch and leaders of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee(BYC) is an officer from a Pakistani law enforcement agency.
Recently, during the Baloch National Gathering, participants apprehended two suspicious armed individuals near the stage. A 9mm pistol, a walkie-talkie, and several bullets were recovered from them.
In a video received by The Balochistan Post, the suspect confessed that Pakistan’s Military Intelligence (MI) had sent them to assassinate Dr. Mahrang and other BYC leaders.
Conversely, in a press conference, the Deputy Commissioner of Gwadar stated that during the gathering, BYC members detained a law enforcement officer and refused to release him. “The district administration engaged in prolonged negotiations, but the committee did not comply. Consequently, the police and Frontier Corps (FC) dispersed the protest crowd,” he said.
He claimed that during the dispersal, none of the security personnel were armed, and only tear gas was used. However, the protesters, who were violent from the start, stoned an FC officer to death, he added.
He further mentioned that the district administration had offered the participants of Baloch National Gathering the right to protest peacefully and assured them of all legal rights, but they did not accept any terms. He also accused the BYC members of taking the law into their hands and challenging the government’s authority.
The Deputy Commissioner dismissed rumors of arrests of the BYC leaders, stating that reports of women being detained or injured during the Gathering in Gwadar were unfounded.
On the other hand, eyewitnesses reported that forces attacked the protest, opened fire on the demonstrators, and injured several. The prominent BYC leaders, Dr. Sabeeha, Sami Din, and Sabghtullah were arrested in injured condition, BYC members and participants of the gathering reported.
