Two major ‘pro-independence’ armed groups in Balochistan, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) and the Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF), have claimed responsibility for separate attacks targeting Pakistani forces in Bolan and Mashkay.

In a media statement, BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch reported that the group’s fighters planted explosives in an empty bunker used by Pakistani forces in the Margat area of Bolan. The explosives were detonated using a remote-controlled IED when two Pakistani soldiers entered the bunker, resulting in the death of one soldier and injuring another.

Separately, the BLF claimed responsibility for an attack on a Pakistani military post in the Mashkay area of Awaran district. BLF spokesperson Major Gohram Baloch stated that BLF fighters first targeted a Pakistani soldier with a sniper rifle at the post in Hogaar Mashkay, killing him. Subsequently, they launched an assault on the post using heavy weapons, causing additional casualties and material damage.

These attacks highlight the ongoing conflict and instability in Balochistan, where various armed groups have been engaged in a prolonged struggle against Pakistani state forces. The BLA and BLF, among others, are seeking independence for Balochistan from Pakistan. The region has been a focal point for insurgent activity, with frequent attacks on military installations, convoys, and infrastructure projects.

The Pakistani military has conducted numerous operations to suppress the insurgency in Balochistan, with a significant military operation currently underway in the Kalat region. However, these military operations have not been successful in quelling the insurgency. Security and political analysts argue that the Balochistan issue is fundamentally political and cannot be resolved through force alone. They assert that lasting peace can only be achieved by addressing the Baloch people’s demands for fundamental rights, including the right to self-determination.
