Teachers and other employees of Balochistan University in Quetta have recorded protests against the non-payment of salaries and administrative irregularities.

According to reports, led by the Joint Action Committee of Balochistan University, a protest camp at the main gate of the university on Sariab Road in the capital city of Quetta has been ongoing for the 74th day due to the financial crisis faced by the university.

This crisis has led to non-payment of salaries to the employees performing duties at the university and non-payment of salaries and pensions to employees at centers run by the university, calling for a permanent resolution.

Additionally, the protesters organized a rally on Sariab Road in Quetta and staged a demonstration.

On this occasion, the protesting employees of Balochistan University stated that the non-payment of salaries and pensions is a violation of basic human rights and constitutional laws. For the past several months, especially over the last 74 days, teachers and employees have been peacefully protesting at the university’s main gate for the payment of their salaries. They have not been paid their full salaries and pensions for the past few months.

The teachers announced that the protest camp would be moved to Sariab Road the day after tomorrow, Thursday, and the road would be completely blocked.

The speakers demanded from the Chief Minister and Governor of Balochistan to seriously address the severe financial crisis faced by Balochistan University and its affiliated centers. They called for at least 10 billion rupees to be allocated in the upcoming annual budget and 5 billion rupees for the endowment funds. Additionally, they urged the immediate release of a bailout package, as announced by Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfaraz Khan Bugti, to ensure the payment of salaries before Eid.

The Joint Action Committee of Balochistan University has requested print, electronic, and social media representatives to provide extensive coverage of their protest movement.
