In the Johan Gazg area of Kalat, unknown armed men bombed a cellular tower and destroyed all its machinery, suspending mobile signals in the region. United Baloch Army, a “pro-independence” group, claimed responsibility for the attack, saying that such attacks will be continued till the independence of Balochistan.

According to reports, the assailants bombed the whole tower down and destroyed its machinery. Photos of the incident show a fallen, twisted tower, solar panels with large holes in them and completely burnt generators and batteries.

United Baloch Army claimed responsibility for the attack in a media statement, saying that its fighters destroyed the tower and its equipment.

UBA said that such attacks will continue till the independence of Balochistan.

“Pro-independence” groups have carried out similar attacks in the past where they have destroyed cellular towers. Many argue that these towers give the Pakistani state direct access to Baloch insurgent groups which mostly operate in these areas. To counter the threat, the Baloch insurgents attack and destroy these towers.
