Internet services have been restored in parts of Balochistan after five years of suspension. Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has allowed mobile operators to activate internet services in Awaran, Kech, Panjgur, Kalat and Turbat areas.

In a statement, PTA confirmed the restoration of the internet services in various parts of Balochistan. The statement said that after reviewing the security situation, the ministry of interior has cleared Turbat city, Kech, Awaran, Panjgur, Washuk and Kalat, and Awaran-Bela high road for internet connectivity.

Internet services have been suspended in many regions of Balochistan for the last five years on the pretext of volatile security situation. Baloch students have been protesting for the restoration of the Internet in Balochistan. Protests intensified when universities across Pakistan announced the online classes during the national lockdown due to covid pandemic.

One of the most common issues faced by Baloch students was inability to attend online classes due to non availability of online classes.

“The decision of restoring mobile phone internet services in Balochistan will benefit the students to participate in the online study sessions,” said a Baloch student.
