Five people were killed a devastating road accident on Sunday on the Quetta-Karachi highway in Soorab.

According to the details, a truck collided with a high-speed 2D car on the highway. Five of the occupants of the car were killed in the accident. The deceased were residents of the Haramzai area of district Pishin and were travelling to their home to celebrate Eid with their families.

Balochistan highways have witnessed thousands of fatal road accidents over the years, hence the rightly earned sobriquet “killer highways.” Hundreds have lost their lives in these accidents and numerous others have sustained lifelong crippling injuries. Most of the roads connecting Balochistan to other provinces are dangerously narrow and roughly decrepit. In addition, medical centers are a rarity on most of the highways. In case of an accident, medical aid from the nearest city or town can take hours to arrive.

Activists have repeatedly urged the government to double the major highways of Balochistan, as a wider road can dramatically cut the rate of fatal accidents. The government has not responded so far, and the so-called “deadly highways” of Balochistan continue to take countless lives.
