The death toll from Shapuk blast has increased to seven as two more women have succumbed to their injuries in a Karachi hospital.

According to local TBP correspondent, two more women died on Friday after the earlier deaths of four women and a child.

On 21st September, a gas cylinder explosion during a marriage preparation ceremony had killed two women and injured nearly a dozen women and children in Shapuk, Turbat.

The critically injured victims of the blast were shifted to hospitals in Karachi for further treatment.

However, due to severity of the injuries, the death toll continued to rise. One 25th September two more women and a child, belonging to the same family, lost their lives.

On Friday, the death toll further spiked as two more women succumbed to their injuries. Multiple victims are still in different hospitals of Karachi for treatment.

The incident has resulted in a sombre environment in the whole Turbat district.

Inadequate health facilities and absence of a burn unit in Turbat has been blamed for the increase in deaths.

Social activists have also condemned government’s failure to monitor the gas cylinders imported by a certain ‘mafia’ in the bordering regions of Balochistan. ‘The gas cylinders sold to public are in very poor condition and there is no government mechanism to carry out checks on this trade. Even after this fatal incident, nothing has been done to fix the grave issue,’ a local social activist told TBP.

In Balochistan, which has the largest gas reservoir in the region, the inhabitants are forced to use firewood or gas cylinders for energy needs. However, the gas from Balochistan is supplied to every part of Punjab.
