Four sea turtles have been found dead along a two-kilometre stretch of coastline in the Gwadar area, local sources said, with authorities yet to determine the cause of the deaths.
Marine expert Zareef Baloch described the deaths as “highly alarming”, warning of potential environmental implications.
He said similar incidents have previously been reported along Gwadar’s coast, but no comprehensive investigation has been carried out to determine the causes.
Baloch urged relevant institutions to take immediate and effective measures to protect sea turtles, noting that the coastal areas of Balochistan were once considered important breeding grounds for the species.
He said the increasing number of deaths in recent years had become a serious environmental concern.
He also appealed to local fishermen to safely release any turtles caught in fishing nets to prevent further harm to this rare species.
