Pakistani security officials have confirmed that at least three Frontier Corps (FC) personnel were killed and four others wounded when unidentified gunmen attacked a security checkpost in Balgatar, a region located between Kech and Panjgur districts of Balochistan, on Tuesday evening.

Officials confirmed the incident and the casualties, though local sources suggested that the death toll may be higher than reported. According to government sources, the assailants launched the assault around 6 p.m. using sophisticated automatic weapons.

Hours after the attack, the Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) claimed responsibility. In a statement to the media, BLF spokesperson Major Gwahram Baloch said that the organization’s fighters surrounded a Pakistani military camp at the Tash area of Balgatar – situated along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) route – and engaged the troops from multiple directions.

According to the spokesperson, the clash lasted for nearly three hours, after which the BLF fighters “took control” of the camp. He added that a detailed statement regarding the operation would be issued soon.
