At least eight people were killed and one injured in separate traffic accidents in two districts of Balochistan.

According to reports, five people from Karachi were killed on the spot when a car collided with a truck on the Quetta–Karachi National Highway (N-25) near Naghar in Surab district. Police said rescue teams shifted the bodies to hospital while efforts were made to clear the highway.

In separate similar incident, three people were burnt to death and one was injured when two vehicles collided and caught fire between Naag in Washuk. Rescue 1122 volunteers moved the injured and the bodies to Panjgur Teaching Hospital.

It’s pertinent to mention that Balochistan has witnessed a disturbing surge in road traffic accidents during the first half of 2025, resulting in the reported loss of hundreds of lives and leaving thousands injured. The crisis, highlighted in a six-month report by the Medical Emergency Response Center (MERC), points to worsening road conditions, poor enforcement of traffic laws, and official negligence as key contributors.

According to MERC’s data, 12,110 road accidents were reported across Balochistan between January and June 2025, leading to 239 deaths and 15,690 injuries.
