The two-day Saba Dashtiyari Literary and Academic Festival, organized by the Baloch Students Action Committee (BSAC), began on Saturday at Atta Shad Degree College in Turbat.

The festival aims to celebrate the life and contributions of renowned Baloch academic and writer Saba Dashtiyari while promoting literature, education, and cultural heritage.

The opening ceremony featured a presentation by Professor Balaach Bali of Turbat University, who highlighted Dashtiyari’s significant literary and academic legacy. A documentary on his life and achievements was also screened.

A panel discussion on classical Balochi literature was held during the event. Dr. Ghafoor Shad, chairman of the Balochistan Academy Kech, described classical literature as a valuable cultural and intellectual resource. “Classical literature reflects a nation’s history, language, and traditions. The Baloch nation has a rich poetic tradition that spans thousands of years,” he said.

He expressed concern over the declining interest in classical Balochi literature, attributing it to a shift toward foreign literary studies. “Much of today’s poetry lacks the essence of classical works by poets like Mullah Fazul, Syed Hashmi, Atta Shad, and Ghulam Hussain Shohaz,” he added, urging young people to reconnect with their literary roots.

The festival also features book stalls, science exhibits, photography displays, poetry recitals, musical performances, and discussions on various topics.
