A local rickshaw driver was reportedly injured due to violence by Pakistan Army personnel in Gwadar, the coastal city of Balochistan on Friday.

According to the rickshaw driver, he was stopped by army personnel and hit with the butt of a gun, which left him seriously injured. “If we remain silent, we will be further harassed,” he said

In a media briefing, Haq Do Tehreek, a rights group from the coastal areas of Balochistan, condemned the incident and urged the Army to immediately stop harassing people of Gwadar.

Hundreds of citizens of the city protested against the incident and completely closed the main highway of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Protesters demanded the removal of the army from the city and streets.

The protestors said that unprovoked violence on the local rickshaw driver is unacceptable while army personnel are deployed in the streets which is not acceptable in any way.

Residents of Gwadar have complained that in addition to the presence of police and other forces in the city, the army has started strict checking by blocking the highway and streets. However, the Military officials have not commented on the allegations.
