According to reports, a pregnant woman and her child lost their lives due to unable to access to medical treatment in Dera Bugti on Sunday. Local alleged that the incident took place due to untrained staff and lack of facilities.

Locals have expressed anger over the incident and said that for 10 years Sarfraz Bugti and his cousin Tariq Bugti ruled the people of Dera Bugti, and for the last five years Nawabzada Shahzain bugti and Gwahram Khan were the representatives, but no one has been able to build a maternity center in the district.

It pertinent to mention that Dera Bugti witnesses frequent deaths during this time of the year. As per a survey report, 78 out of 1,000 maternal deaths occur in Balochistan, including 66 children and 34 mothers.

Poor health infrastructure in Balochistan is the main reason behind the increase in maternal mortality rate, mother and child mortality rates are higher in remote areas than in major cities of Balochistan.
