A woman reportedly shot herself dead in the Kechi Beg Sariyab area of the city Quetta, according to sources. The dead body of the deceased has been shifted to the hospital for further investigation.

The motive behind the suicide remains unclear.

It should be noted that not only men but also the reports of the suicide rates of women are on the rise in Balochistan. A similar incident took place in January 2023, where a woman committed suicide in the Tump Sirankan area of the Kech district.

According to the data collected by The Balochistan Post (TBP), a dozen people have reportedly committed suicide during the four months of this year. Most of the cases were reported from the Kech district. Several other cases were reported from Panjgur, Gwadar, Hub Chowki, and Dera Bugti regions of Balochistan.

Women in Balochistan attempt suicide due to a combination of reasons such as depression from enforced disappearances, denial of basic rights, and societal and familial pressures. Suicide rates, particularly among, have seen a significant spike in the past few months. But despite the increasing suicide incidents throughout Balochistan, the government has not taken any steps to prevent them.
