Three unidentified and unclaimed dead bodies were laid to rest in Mastung, Balochistan, on Sunday by workers of a welfare institution. The officials  confirmed that thirteen other dead bodies are currently placed in a morgue in Quetta’s civil hospital, and they will also be buried if no one shows up to identify and claim them.

The Chhipa Welfare Association had also buried ten unidentified and unclaimed dead bodies in the same area in the previous month. In January 2019, the Edhi foundation workers also buried ten unidentified dead bodies in the area which were discovered in the mountains. In the past five years, more than 160 unclaimed dead bodies have been laid to rest in the area.

The crumbling healthcare system of Balochistan lacks any sophisticated techniques, such as DNA testing, to identify the numerous dead bodies found in random places throughout Balochistan. Rights activists and groups have raised concerns over the issue, but the government has so far done nothing to alleviate their grievances.
