Seven labourers were injured in Gaddani ship-breaking-yard when a fire erupted in a ship on Sunday.

According to the details received by the Balochistan Post, fire erupted in a ship brought for scrapping in Gaddani ship-breaking-yard on Sunday.

As a result, seven labourers sustained injuries, at least three of whom are under critical condition. All the injured have been shifted to a nearby hospital.

The incident occurred in plot number 9 and 10, where a vessel was brought for scrapping. According to the administration, the fire erupted when labourers were working on the ship.

Labourers argued that yard administration does not provide proper tools for safety, and to extinguish any fire. They have to call the fire brigade stationed in Hub city.

Fire incidents have become normal for Gaddani ship-breaking-yard, as at least 23 labourers have been killed in fire incidents during the last two years.

Gaddani ship-breaking-yard which used to be the largest breaking yard in the world has dropped down to 4th in last three decade. Conditions on the yard have worsened due to government’s negligence and are further deteriorating day by day.
