Chaghi faces the most severe drought of the decade affecting seven thousand families in the district
According to the details received by the Balochistan Post news desk, Chaghi district suffers due to decade’s worst drought in the district.
“Shortage of water has affected the agriculture of the district and cattle are also dying”, said Muhammad Qasim, Deputy Commissioner Chaghi.
He said that a letter has been sent to the provincial government for relief supplies.
Whereas, Director PDMA, Atta Ullah Mengal claimed that almost three thousand families have been provided with the ration, blankets and dry milk.
He told media that the adjacent district of Noshki has also suffered due to drought and soon all deputy commissioners would be invited so that they could be directed about the relief programs in the drought-hit regions.
Chaghi district is facing a severe drought after 2002 which had forced thousands of families to migrate from the area.
Long-delayed rains are showing their effect in several districts now, weather department has also released warning regarding the upcoming drought which would affect Quetta, Gwadar, Panjgur and Turbat districts.
Due to the low rate of rainfall this year, the water table in the region has fallen down to a critical level.
Experts say that the government should take emergency measures to fight drought, and a proper policy should be devised and new laws should be formed having insights from the experts.
