The Afghan and U.S. forces carried out joint airstrikes on two separate gatherings of the Taliban group in northern Faryab province of Afghanistan, leaving several militants dead, Khaama news reported.
According to the news agency, the 209th Shaheen Corps of the Afghan Military in the north in a statement said the airstrikes were carried out based on accurate intelligence information and coordinates.
According to 209th Shaheen Corps, the gatherings of the Taliban militants were targeted in Garziwan village and Islam Qala area of Sherin Tagab district.
At least 17 militants were killed during the airstrikes on two gatherings, 209th Shaheen Corps said, adding that a commander of the group identified as Qari Rahmatullah was among those killed.
The statement by 209th Shaheen Corps also added that similar airstrikes were also carried out in Bazar Qala area of Dawlatabad district, leaving at least 11 militants dead.
A key commander of the group identified as Qari Adbullah was among those killed, the 209th Shaheen Corps said.
