Death toll in Indonesia quake-tsunami mounts to 1944


The death toll in the earthquake and tsunami that struck Indonesia’s Sulawesi has mounted to 1944 as of Sunday, Indonesia’s military and disaster agency officials confirmed.

Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho at a press conference said that over 2500 schools have also been damaged after the disaster hit the central province of Indonesia on 28 September 2018.

Nugroho said that survivors of the earthquake and tsunami have started to return their homes now.

Sulawesi, an island in Indonesia, was struck by two powerful earthquakes, measuring 7.7 and 6.1 on the Richter scale, and a tsunami on 28th September causing heavy loss of human lives and widespread displacement.
