Asad Mama, police chief of Meezan district of southern Zabul province of Afghanistan was killed in a Taliban attack on Saturday night, local police officials confirmed, ToloNews reported.
The attack took place after many Taliban fighters attacked the Meezan district and started clashes with Afghan security forces, the officials said, adding that “Asad Mama was killed in the attack.”
According to Afghan officials, the Taliban also suffered heavy casualties adding that there is no exact information about the casualty numbers.
However, the officials did not provide further details.
The Taliban have not yet commented over the attack.
In a separate attack, seven policemen were killed in Shar-e-Safa district in Zabul, the provincial governor, Rahmatullah Yarmal confirmed.
He said the Taliban also suffered casualties. No further details were provided.
